KATE YOUNG
Kate Young has been working with clay since the early 90’s and has a Diploma of Art in Ceramics.
Kate creates sculptures - known as ‘Kate Girls’ - inspired by the spirited women she’s discovered on her travels to almost 100 countries.
“I feel their personality coming through as I sculpt each girl from a ball of clay - the fearless women of Ethiopia’s Tigray Mountains to the easy-smiling chicas of El Salvador.”
‘Kate Girls’ are created in a variety of sizes and finishes and are adorned with upcycled accessories destined for landfill.
Once dried, each piece is bisque fired to 1000° then glazed and fired, often multiple times, in the ancient Japanese Raku method.
